A senior official of an apex body of the wool industry has raised questions on the concerns raised by US retailers of setting deadlines over the sheep mulesing issue.
Chick Olsson, Director of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) says growers will not put up with any more deadlines along with which AWI also does not favour the same.
He called it a destructive way of achieving and turning around a practice which has been followed for centuries by wool producers.
Mulesing is carried out on merino sheep to avoid flystrike. However, the method has been vehemently opposed by animal welfare activists in the US and Europe.
