Wool representatives, who conducted a meeting last week, have decided to establish a new industry body.
The suggestion about setting up a new industry body was given by the Task Force, which was formed by the Agriculture Minister, David Carter, to advise on bringing back profitability to the strong wool sector.
A membership agreement was inked by textile industry members, which specifies, among other things, aims of the group, four elements of wool strategy, which they are signing and the manner in which, disparity needs to be resolved.
Fibre Chairman, Bruce Wills informed that, farmers were getting upset over the poor returns coming from the industry. While the industry has to attempt every possible measure, in order to improve the situation, earlier trials of uniting the industry have resulted unsuccessful.
More so, the organisation representing sheep and beef farmers, Meat and Wool New Zealand, have changed their name to Beef + Lamb New Zealand, to bring it back on track with its local marketing for red-meat.
The new name also depicts farmer's decision to abandon the wool duty, they were paying so far for research and other wool-related activities.
