Crafts receive more boosters for promotion

Handlooms, handicrafts and the textile segments are most likely to receive a boost by the Lepakshi handicrafts and handlooms expo, which is being organized by the concerned organisation.

The expo was inaugurated by B Venkateshwara Rao, Managing Director of Ap Handicraft Development Corporation on July 16 and the expo is said to continue till July 25 at the Zoroastrian Club.

Around 80 people, all representing different craft media, have been invited to trade their goods in the expo. The aim of this expo is to promote, stimulate and expand the market for craftsmen's goods.

Metal castings and sheet metal artware in brass-artware and bidriware, crochet lace and Kalamkari block prints from Machilipatnam, in addition to soft wood toys and dolls from Kondapally and Etikoppaka villages are currently on display.

Also, to watch out at the expo is cotton durries, banjara tribal embroidery and silver jewellery, which are the traditional art forms of Andhra Pradesh.

Never before seen, collections of Venkatgiri and Gadwal sarees and textiles crafted by tie and dye weaving process of Pochampalli are likely to lure more eyes.
