Siam Thai Silk includes new line of scarves & shawls

David Middleton, co-founder and CEO of Siam Thai Silk Company LLC announced that his company has launched a new line of designer silk scarves and shawls made from 100% Thai silk and woven in Thailand under the brand name Panissara Silk. The new line can be seen at panissarasilk.com and consists of 38 distinct styles in six collections; five for women: Elegance, Sassy, Metro, Inspirations, Reflections, and the Lui collection for men.

According to Middleton, the specifically selected silk was raised and then woven in Thailand. “Thai silk, and the skill of Thai craftsman who have generations of skill hand weaving and finishing silk garments, is world renowned. The technique of yarn-dying the silk before weaving using both high quality natural and manmade dyes yields a silk that is rich in color and deep in luster. There is nothing like it in the world and it is why Thai silk has been a favorite for over 2,000 years.”

Said Ann Middleton, company co-founder and lead designer, “Our strategy is to create and produce high quality pieces in small volume, much the way an artist creates a piece of art. Although hand crafted weaving and sewing limits the quantities we can produce, we think the end product is superior than that produced by large, automated factory weaving.”

For the past eighteen months the company has worked directly with six 'boutique' designers and weavers in Thailand to design and produce a wide variety of styles. Unique features include hand-sewn ruching, extra long silk fringe, and hand pressed silkscreen prints that are deeply penetrated with vibrant colors.

The scarves will be available in very limited quantities and sold through the company's website and through a select group of specialty stores.

The idea for Panissara began on a visit to Thailand in 2008 where the Middleton's discovered there was very little silk from Thailand being exported into the United States .

Recognizing the quality and uniqueness of Thai silk, they conceived the idea to design, develop and produce garments made of silk in Thailand, by the best Thai silk weavers.

Middleton, a career marketing executive, and his wife Ann, born in Thailand with a background in design, began to work with local silk growers, designers and weavers, and various representatives from the Thai government including those from The Queen Sirikit Institute of Sericulture. They developed a business plan for Panissara Silk that would provide an avenue to the North American markets for local producers, while bringing the very best silk to consumers under the company's brand name, Panissara Silk.

The Panissara brand name is derived from Ann's Thai name “Panisara,” which literally means 'at the top.' As Middleton explained, “Our goal is to bring the very best silk fashions to the U.S. consumer starting with top quality silk scarves, shawls, and wraps that we make from the very best silk in Thailand. We believe discerning customers will see and appreciate the difference and awaken to the truly 'old world' of fine Thai silk.
