The Textile, Clothing and Footwear (TCF) Council has given a proposal to provide seven percent hike in minimum wages for the apparel workers.
The TCF Council has revealed that it can raise the minimum wage of the new joiners in the industry from $1.58 to $1.60 an hour and those who earn $1.78 to $1.90 an hour.
During the last two years, the labor force in the apparel sector has registered a decline from 5000 workers to 4000 though there were signs of recovery over the last three to six months.
The council is likely to put forward the proposal of seven percent hike in minimum wages to other industry stakeholders but it is not known from when the increase will come into effect.
However, there is a possibility that the increase in wages will be implemented by May 1st, 2011 as last year also the workers did not get any wage hike.
