Pakistan's textile & apparel exports down 5.1% in July-November 2022

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 5.10 per cent in July-November 2022, the first five months of fiscal 2022-23 (July-June). During this period, Pakistan earned $7.361 billion from textile and apparel exports, compared to $7.757 billion in July-November 2021, as per data released by the country’s ministry of commerce.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose by 2.53 per cent year-on-year to $2,112.83 million during the period under review, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up 1.92 per cent to $1,513.72 million.

As for textiles, cotton yarn exports decreased by 34.87 per cent to $328.20 million, while exports of cotton fabric fell 4.43 per cent to reach $903.69 million in July-November 2022. Bedwear exports declined by 13.29 per cent to $1,219.31 million during this period, the data showed.

On the import front, synthetic fibre imports decreased by 37.87 per cent year-on-year to $224.34 million, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn dropped by 23.27 per cent to $264.04 million during the same period.

Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan in July-November 2022 decreased significantly by 41.16 per cent year-on-year to $212.76 million, showing a drop in new investments.

In fiscal 2021-22 ended June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 25.53 per cent to $19.329 billion over $15.399 billion in the previous fiscal. In fiscal 2019-20, the exports amounted to $12.526 billion.
