During July-November 2015, Pakistan earned $5.233 billion from textiles and apparel exports compared to exports worth $5.713 billion made in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed.
Category-wise, knitwear exports fell by 2.26 per cent year-on-year to $1.002 billion during the five-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up by 3.59 per cent to $847.910 million.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $69.037 million during the period under review, showing a sharp drop of 29.52 per cent compared to exports of $97.954 million made during the same period of the previous fiscal. Likewise, cotton yarn exports fell by 28.09 per cent to $589.520 million, as against exports of $819.842 million made during July-November 2014.
Exports of cotton fabric dropped 9.88 per cent to $924.736 million during the period under review, while bedwear exports declined by 7.36 per cent to $838.829 million, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports dropped 7.06 per cent year-on-year to $225.395 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn declined by 4.65 per cent to $260.542 million.
However, the value of textile machinery imports during the period increased by 5.55 per cent year-on-year to $189.970 million. (RKS)
