Pakistan will be building its first ever naphtha cracker, which will convert naphtha into various by products like ethylene and propylene, which are raw material feedstock to produce textiles and various other consumer products. Currently, Pakistan meets the need for all petrochemical feedstock through imports, which entails a heavy import bill.

The announcement for setting up the naphtha cracker came up after a meeting of a delegation from Pakistan Chemical Manufacturing Association (PCMA) and federal minister for planning, development and reforms.

“The minister urged PCMA to draft a feasibility report and a viable business proposition, by consulting experts and technologists, to make the cracker a reality,” Pakistan media reported. (AR)
