Gas prices would be decreased further for the textile industry to reduce the cost of production to the maximum extent possible, Pakistani state minister for finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan recently told a meeting of the All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) in Faisalabad. Electricity will be provided at a rate of Rs 7 per unit, he said.

A weighted average price of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) will also be introduced, Pakistani media reports quoted Khan as saying.

As textile unit owners had to opt for refund claims due to imposition of sales tax on coal if they used it during gas shortage, the government is considering launching an easy process of zero-rated coal for the textile industry, he added. (DS)
