Producer prices in German industry 0.5% up in Jan

Producer prices of industrial products in Germany were 0.5 per cent higher year on year (YoY) and 0.1 per cent lower month on month (MoM) in January this year, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

When energy prices are excluded, producer prices in January 2025 rose by 1.2 per cent YoY and by 0.3 per cent MoM.

In December last year, the YoY change was 0.8 per cent.

In January 2025, higher prices for non-durable consumer goods were the main reason for the YoY increase in producer prices.

Capital goods and durable consumer goods were also more expensive YoY, while energy and intermediate goods were less.

Energy prices fell by 1 per cent YoY and 0.9 per cent MoM in January.

Non-durable consumer goods cost 3 per cent more in January 2025 than in January 2024 (plus 0.5 per cent on December 2024).

Durable consumer goods cost 1.1 per cent more YoY and 0.4 per cent more MoM in January, a Destatis release said.

The prices of intermediate goods in Germany were 0.1 per cent lower YoY in January. These remained unchanged MoM.
