PVH is taking concrete action to mitigate its impacts on the world’s forests and climate by joining hands with Canopy and Pack4Good initiatives to transform its packaging and viscose supply chains. PVH has launched its forest protection policy to help save the world’s ancient and endangered forests and spark a transition to next generation solutions.

The addition of PVH to these initiatives brings the market power behind the transformational Canopy to more than $260 billion in annual revenues, and the recently launched Pack4Good to almost $50 billion. PVH’s forward fashion corporate responsibility strategy established the foundation of their work to address the use of wood-derived materials throughout their business, specifically setting targets focused on waste reduction and packaging alternatives, and committing to sustainably source all viscose by 2025. By joining Canopy and Pack4Good, PVH further augments these commitments to reduce their negative impacts, the company said in a media statement.

PVH’s comprehensive forest protection policy commits them to purchase paper products certified as being sourced from responsibly managed forests and made with a minimum of 50 per cent post-consumer waste or recycled content; reduce overall packaging and achieve a minimum of 50 per cent recycled content by 2022; eliminate the sourcing of wood-derived materials from Ancient and Endangered Forests, meeting the 2022 target timeline of the Pack4Good initiative; meet the Canopy timeline to eliminate ancient and endangered forests fibre from their viscose fabrics by the end of 2020; adopt Next Generation Solutions as they become commercially available, including agricultural residues in packaging and recycled textiles in their fabrics; and help advance landscape level conservation in high carbon value and bio-diverse forests.

“As one of the largest apparel companies in the world, PVH is committed to incorporating environmentally responsible practices into all of our business activities and working to preserve and protect the planet’s ecosystems. Forests play a crucial role in mitigating climate change and we are proud to work alongside partners like Canopy as we deepen our efforts in this global fight,” Marissa Pagnani McGowan, senior vice president, corporate responsibility at PVH.

“Three billion trees are cut down each year to produce paper packaging, and this number is forecast to double over the next ten years. PVH’s commitment to end sourcing from ancient and endangered forests in both its textile and packaging supply sends a strong message that alternatives to forest fibre are needed for paper and viscose. These tangible Next Generation Solutions will take the pressure off the world’s forests and allow them to do what they do best – provide homes for people and species, filter water, protect soil, and keep our planet’s climate stable,” said Nicole Rycroft, Canopy’s founder and executive director said.
