Special assistant to the Pakistani prime minister on revenue and federal minister Haroon Akhtar Khan recently assured a delegation of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) that the government is keen to pay outstanding sales tax refunds and work is under way for payments by May. For 7 per cent growth, Pakistan has to enhance its manufacturing base, he said.

The APTMA delegation recently met the minister and top officials in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to share a set of recommendations for boosting the export-oriented textile industry, according to Pakistani media reports.

Appreciating the contribution of the textile sector in helping the government achieve the target of nearly doubling the country’s tax revenues since 2013, Khan said a 15 per cent increase in exports has been witnessed in February whereas the overall growth has been around 11-12 per cent during this fiscal.
