EATP (the European Association for Textile Polyolefins) held its annual Executive Seminar in Brussels on May 16.

Textile polyolefins are a major sector of the European textile industry, producing polymers, fibres, fabrics and a wide range of other products, from polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). European output of polyolefin textiles exceeds € 3 billion a year. They have a huge range of uses, in floorcoverings, packaging, home textiles, engineering, agriculture, hygienic and medical products, sportswear and much else.

The theme of the 2011 Executive Seminar was “Fibres and Textiles after the Recession: Challenges and Opportunities for the Future”. Ten presentations by industry experts were given, covering:

• Global feedstock trends;
• Developments in polyolefins and other synthetic fibres;
• Textiles and fibres in the Middle East;
• FIBCs;
• Sustainability;
• Free-trade agreements;
• Innovation;
• The association's future.

EATP Director General Frédéric VAN HOUTE said:

“This was a lively and very successful Executive Seminar, with excellent presentations. It shows the dynamic and flexible approach of the European polyolefin fibres and textiles industry in its recovery from the crisis.

Efficiency, quality, good marketing, customer service, environmental responsibility and innovation are at the centre of the success of the industry. European producers are continuing to look to the future, and the value that they provide to their customers will be the basis for renewed growth

EATP will continue to support this development by representing the industry, making sure its interests are safeguarded, promoting the benefits of polyolefins as a textile material of choice and providing a wide range of services to its members. “
