The Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries’ Association (TIDITSSIA) has urged the Tamil Nadu state government to establish a textile park at Manaparai and offer subsidies and incentives to manufacturers of ‘korai’ mats, handloom and power-loom products and readymade garments to further strengthen the textile sector in the region.

The association also called for daily day-train services to Coimbatore and Bengaluru, setting up a branch of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in Tiruchi and upgrading the cargo division at Tiruchi International Airport to global standards, according to a report in a top South Indian English-language daily.

The state must ensure that at least 20 per cent investment is routed to the Tiruchi region after the Global Investor Meet 2019, the association said.

The association also demanded that Tiruchi should be made the second capital of the state, with at least one assembly session held in the city every year. (DS)
