Exports from the Tunisian textile and clothing sector rose in the first three months of 2011 by 5.09 percent, when compared with the same period, a year ago.

Exports from the sector reached 1.313 million dinars, with France, Italy, Germany and Belgium proving to be main destinations.

These statistics were published by the Textile Technical Centre (CETTEX).

Imports on the other hand, fell 14.85 percent by volume, mainly due to a strong fall in raw material imports from China as well as secondhand clothing from Italy and Belgium.

Editor's comment –
In 2010, exports from the textile and clothing sector were up 26 percent in value and 19 percent in volume, year-on-year.

Considering figures of 2010, the Tunisian textile and clothing sector has been able to overcome impact of the 2008 economic turmoil. Positive growth is also expected to continue in 2011.
