US textile & apparel exports down 2.14% in Jan-Nov '19

Category-wise, apparel exports decreased by 0.26 per cent year-on-year to $5.609 billion, while textile mill products dipped 2.79 per cent to $15.701 billion during the first eleven months of 2019.

Among apparel, the highest growth of 28.47 per cent was registered in exports of men's and boy's sport & dress coats, whereas a maximum decline of 30.61 per cent was seen in exports of women's and girl's suit-type jackets & coats.

Among textile mill products, yarn exports declined by 4.09 per cent year-on-year to $3.968 billion, while fabric exports decreased by 3.10 per cent to $8.226 billion and made-up article exports decreased by 0.52 per cent to $3.506 billion.

Country-wise, Mexico and Canada together accounted for nearly half of the total US textile and clothing exports during the period under review. The US supplied $5.562 billion worth of textiles and apparel to Mexico during the eleven-month period, followed by $4.965 billion to Canada and $1.509 billion to Honduras.

In recent years, the US textile and clothing exports have remained in the range of $22-25 billion per annum. In 2014, they stood at $24.418 billion, while the figure was $23.622 billion in 2015, $22.124 billion in 2016, $22.671 billion in 2017 and $23.467 billion in 2018.
