Vidarbha cotton farmers greet decision to relook cotton export cap

Cotton farmers in Vidharbha, also called the cotton-bowl of Maharashtra – the second biggest cotton producing state in Gujarat have welcomed the assurance given by the central government ministers to look in to the demand of the Gujarat ginners to lift the cap of 5.5 million bales on cotton exports.
Kishore Tiwari of Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti, welcomed the assurance given by the textiles minister.
Textiles Minister – Dayanidhi Maran assured the delegation from Gujarat that he would favorably look in to the demand for permitting an additional 1.5 million bales for export and convene a meeting of the Cotton Advisory Board (CAB).
Mr Tiwari said that the cotton farmers have started panicking as cotton prices have plunged around 28 percent in the last two fortnights.
Mr Tiwari demanded removal all restrictions on exports of cotton, which could help the cotton farmers from Vidarbha.
