It rose by 8.8 per cent YoY in the first five months this year.
The index for manufacturing and processing sector rose by 11 per cent YoY in May.
Compared to last year, the IIP for the first five months this year increased in 61 localities. Notably, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Cao Bang provinces recorded YoY drops of 3.4 per cent and 3.3 per cent respectively.
Several localities achieved notable increases in IIP due to strong performance in the manufacturing and processing sector, as well as electricity production and distribution, according to statistics released by the National Statistics office (NSO).
During the first five months of 2025, manufacturing output increased YoY for casual wear, fabric made from natural fibres, leather shoes and sandals, and decreased YoY for synthetic fibre fabrics.
The number of workers employed in industrial enterprises (as of May 1, 2025) also increased by 1.1 per cent MoM and 4.5 per cent YoY. Employment grew in the manufacturing and processing sector.
