Westlake Chemical Corporation is in the process of restarting its Calvert City, Kentucky complex, following an unexpected shutdown that took place on June 1, 2016.

The mechanical fault in its ethylene unit had resulted in a complete shutdown of the facility, which produces EDC, VCM, Chlor-Alkali and PVC resin.

“The approximate $40 million impact of this outage will affect both the second and third quarter financial results, with nearly half of this amount impacting the third quarter,” the company said.

Westlake Chemical added that it is working with its customers and suppliers to mitigate the impact of the outage and to meet their needs as production resumes.

Westlake Chemical Corporation is a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, polymers and building products and produces ethylene, polyethylene, styrene, propylene, caustic, VCM and many other products. (AR)
