An incessant gain in wool prices came to a grinding halt, last Thursday, as for the first time in many weeks, prices of most varieties lost ground.

The combined North and South Island auction sale witnessed decline in prices, which experts attribute to a strengthening of the US dollar.

Except, prices of poor-colour fleece and early shorn wools, which maintained stability, shorter lambs' wool fell 2-3 percent, good-colour fleece declined 3 percent and average-style fleece dipped a marginal 1 percent.

Around 88 percent of the 14,000 bales on offer were sold out on the day.
