WPI inflation for textiles declines 0.2% in Oct 2017

The official WPI for all commodities (Base: 2011-12 = 100) for the month of October 2017 rose by 1.0 per cent to 115.5 from 114.3 for the previous month, according to the provisional data released by the Office of the Economic Adviser, ministry of commerce and industry.

The index for manufactured products (weight 64.23 per cent) for October 2017 rose by 0.3 per cent to 113.7 from 113.4 for the previous month. The index for textiles sub-group declined by 0.2 per cent to 113.2 from 113.4 for the previous month due to lower price of cotton yarn (2 per cent) and woollen yarn (1 per cent). However, the price of manufacture of knitted and crocheted fabrics (2 per cent) and synthetic yarn (1 per cent) moved up.

The index for ‘Manufacture of Wearing Apparel’ sub-group rose by 0.4 per cent to 137.1 in October 2017 from 136.6 for the previous month due to higher price of manufacture of knitted and crocheted apparel (2 per cent).

The index for primary articles (weight 22.62 per cent) rose by 2 per cent to 133.4 from 130.8 for the previous month. On the other hand, the index for fuel and power (weight 13.15 per cent) rose by 3.1 per cent to 93.5 from 90.7 for the previous month due to higher price of LPG, naphtha, petroleum coke, ATF, furnace oil, kerosene, bitumen, HSD and petrol.
