According to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro, China remained the top buyer with imports of more than 36 per cent during the first nine months of the current year. The outbound shipment of cotton from Brazil to China was valued at $1,291.413 million in January-September 2024, which is 36.98 per cent of the total.
The other four countries among the top five markets—Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkiye and Pakistan—together imported around 50 per cent of cotton in terms of value. The export to Vietnam was noted at $639.165 million (18.30 per cent), Bangladesh $428.277 million (12.26 per cent), Turkiye $354.143 million (10.14 per cent) and to Pakistan $316.293 million (9.06 per cent).
During the last year, Brazil’s cotton exports totalled $3,073.780 million. Of this, China’s share was 48.76 per cent or $1,498.919 million in the previous year. The shipment to Bangladesh was $393.668 million (12.81 per cent), Vietnam $386.222 million (12.57 per cent), Turkiye $253.348 million (8.24 per cent), and Indonesia $188.710 million (6.14 per cent).
As per TexPro, Brazil exported 1,841.008 million kg cotton in the first nine months of 2024. The average price of the shipment was noted at $1.90 per kg during the period. In comparison, during the year 2023, total exported quantity of cotton was 1,618.187 million kg and average price was at the same level of $1.90 per kg.
