The textile and apparel sector contributed 56.44 per cent to Pakistan’s total exports of $10.889 billion in July-October 2024, a decline from its 58.03 per cent share in the same period of the 2023-24 fiscal.
In terms of categories, knitwear exports increased by 18.69 per cent year-on-year to $1,759.99 million, while exports of non-knit readymade garments rose by 25.40 per cent to $1,358.89 million. Cotton yarn exports decreased by 45.59 per cent to $221.76 million, while cotton fabric exports increased by 5.25 per cent to $679.43 million. Bedwear exports increased by 13.17 per cent to $1,069.69 million.
Regarding imports, synthetic fibre imports decreased by 23.07 per cent year-on-year to $138.82 million. Imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn gained by 0.03 per cent to $211.01 million. However, Pakistan’s imports of textile machinery in October 2024 rose by 42.34 per cent year-on-year to $66.67 million, indicating a revival of new investments in the sector.
In fiscal 2023-24, Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports edged up by 0.93 per cent to $16.655 billion. In contrast, exports in fiscal 2022-23 had decreased by 14.63 per cent to $16.501 billion, compared to $19.329 billion in fiscal 2021-22.
