Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 9.29 per cent year-on-year to $2.155 billion during the nine-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 2.02 per cent to $1.957 billion.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $15.721 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 71.84 per cent compared to exports of $55.825 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.
Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 15.44 per cent and fetched $835.325 million, as against exports of $987.797 million made during July-March FY18. Exports of cotton fabric decreased marginally by 2.09 per cent and were valued at $1.596 billion during the first nine months of fiscal 2018-19, while bedwear exports increased by 2.69 per cent to $1.719 billion, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were up 7.82 per cent year-on-year to $427.207 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell by 0.44 per cent to $485.331 million. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined by 10.59 per cent year-on-year to $379.471 million during the period under review.
In fiscal 2017-18 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.67 per cent to $13.530 billion over $12.450 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
