Exports to European Union (EU) countries decreased by 1.1 per cent MoM, but those to non-EU countries rose by 1.9 per cent in the month. Imports from EU countries dropped by 3 per cent MoM, while from non-EU countries, these increased by 4.4 per cent MoM.
Such exports contracted by 1.4 per cent quarter on quarter (QoQ) in the last quarter (Q4) of 2025, while imports fell by 0.2 per cent QoQ, an Istat release said.
Exports increased by 4.9 per cent year on year (YoY) and imports rose by 3.4 per cent YoY in December last year. Exports grew by 4.7 per cent YoY for EU countries and by 5.1 per cent for non-EU countries. Imports increased by 7.1 per cent YoY for EU-nations, while these declined by 1.1 per cent for non-EU nations.
In December 2025, Italian trade balance saw a surplus of €6,037 million—a €2,447-million deficit for EU countries and a €8,484-million surplus for non-EU countries. Excluding energy, the trade balance showed a surplus of €9,792 million.
