Signed during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit, the agreement reinforces India-France strategic ties and strengthens connectivity between India and the European Union (EU). The partnership proposes the creation of an IMEC Ports Club to co-ordinate key ports along the corridor.
The MoU also advances plans for a Mundra-Marseille Fos Green Maritime Corridor and promotes technical collaboration in digitalisation, cybersecurity, alternative fuels and low-carbon bunkering.
Marseille Fos will serve as IMEC’s western European gateway, adding around 70 million tonnes of capacity and extending the corridor’s reach deeper into Europe. APSEZ’s Mundra and Hazira ports anchor the eastern gateway, forming a multimodal hub linking South Asia to West Asia.
The 6,000-km IMEC initiative, launched at the 2023 G20 Summit in New Delhi, aims to integrate maritime, rail, digital and clean energy networks between India and Europe.
