North Indian markets showed mixed trend in cotton yarn today as Ludhiana recorded price rise of ₹5 per kg but Delhi and Panipat markets remained stable. The increase in price in Ludhiana was due to spinning mills quoting higher prices for various counts and varieties of cotton yarn. Traders expect the demand to increase over the next 5-7 days.

According to market sources, yarn prices increased by ₹5 per kg in Ludhiana though demand was not supportive. Gulshan Bansal, a Ludhiana based trader, told Fibre2Fashion that current demand is very weak, but it is likely to improve in one weak.

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹410-420 per kg, while 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹385-405 per kg and ₹390-410 per kg respectively. Carded yarn of 30 count was quoted at ₹390-400 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

In Delhi market, which is a major trading hub catering to yarn demand in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi/NCR regions, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹380-410 per kg, 40 count combed at ₹420-430 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹335-340 per kg and 40 count carded at ₹360-370 per kg, as per TexPro. 10 count weaving (O/E) yarn was quoted at ₹125-130 per kg, while 16 count weaving (O/E) at ₹160-165 per kg.

Meanwhile, Panipat market is still facing shortage of rugs (old clothes and woollens)—the main raw material for recycled yarn, because of supply disruption from Europe due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Still, prices of recycled yarn did not increase due to slower demand. According to Panipat-based trader Suresh Durga recycled yarn prices would have increased due to shortage of raw material, but the current weak demand did not support upside trend. He said that disturbance in Black Sea region due to the Russia-Ukraine war disrupted the supply channel. Panipat is dependent on imports of old clothes and woollens from Europe, which are used as raw material for recycled yarn used for furnishing textiles.

In Panipat market, 10s recycled yarn (white) was traded at ₹100-110 per kg, 10s recycled yarn (coloured, high quality) at ₹100-105 per kg, 10s recycled yarn (coloured, low quality) at ₹75-80 per kg, and 20s recycled yarn (coloured) at ₹130-145 per kg. 10s Optical yarn was traded at ₹125-130 per kg in the market.

Cotton prices surged by ₹800-1,000 per candy of 356 kg in north Indian states on Monday amid increased demand from mills, while daily arrivals improved in the mandis of these states. In Punjab, cotton was quoted at ₹89,000-90,200 per candy. In Haryana, the prices were ruling at ₹87,200-89,200 per candy. In Upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹90,000-90,400 per candy. In Lower Rajasthan, prices were noted at ₹84,500-86,500 per candy.
