“President Trump is unlocking commercially meaningful market access for American farmers and manufacturers, opening Ecuador’s market of over 18 million consumers to US agricultural and industrial exports,” said Greer in a statement.
The agreement will ‘further expand and diversify’ bilateral trade and investment to advance joint interests, while boosting US competitiveness in Latin America, he added.
The agreement will help US farmers, ranchers, fishers, small businesses and manufacturers to increase US exports and expand business opportunities, and help reduce the goods trade deficit with Ecuador, a USTR factsheet said.
US goods and services exports to Ecuador reached $10.2 billion in 2024.
The Agreement includes new terms to expand preferential market access, particularly for America’s agricultural exporters, while also lowering tariff and non-tariff barriers.
The key terms of the agreement include addressing tariff barriers; breaking down non-tariff barriers for US industrial and agricultural exports; advancing trade facilitation; preventing barriers for digital trade; geographical indications and market access; protecting and enforcing intellectual property; and strengthening labour and environmental protections.
