AIM, the industry association and worldwide authority on bar code, RFID, RTLS and mobile computing, has selected Intermec by Honeywell as the winner of the inaugural AIDC Case Study Competition.

This award, to be given annually by AIM, recognizes those who have developed and delivered compelling solutions that contribute to the growth and advancement of automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) through innovation and technologies which provide benefits that decrease risk, increase the demand and accelerate the adoption of AIDC.

The issue faced by World Vision International, an organization dedicated to working throughout the world with children, families and their communities tackling the causes of poverty and injustice, was how to improve efficiency and time savings in the distribution of aid in the field.

The added technical challenge was not only the in-field environment, but location. A solution was needed that would work in areas that may have experienced a massive natural disaster or where infrastructure may be unstable.

Enter Intermec by Honeywell who brought together World Vision’s Last Mile Mobile Solutions (LMMS) software with the Intermec CN50 handheld mobile computer. This solution not only offered significant enhancements, but proved intuitive for World Vision workers to make a seamless transition.

Additionally, a 60% improvement in the time required to verify aid to beneficiaries was immediate. What once took 2-3 minutes now takes 30 seconds. An individual World Vision worker can process aid for 1,000 households in a single working day – a task that previously took more than one full week.

"It’s clear Intermec is a winner in more ways than one,” said Mary Lou Bosco, COO of AIM, Inc. "We had many great submissions for this competition, but in looking at the significance of the Intermec – World Vision project, we were not only impressed with the technical challenges overcome but the global ramifications for this humanitarian effort. This will have a truly life changing impact for so many. We congratulate the entire team for their success and know they have set the standard for AIM’s future case study competitions.”
