FDDI provides consultancy to Ceylon Leather Products

Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Noida is providing consultancy to Ceylon Leather Products Limited, Sri Lanka for designing, installing and commissioning a shoe & a leather goods factory.
The Ceylon Leather Products Limited, (Shoes & Leather Goods Factory) was established in 1942 by the British Govt. to produce boots, shoes and accessories for the British Armed Forces. The company is ISO 9001:2000 certified for the leather and footwear production & is the pioneer in the manufacture of leather footwear in Sri Lanka, under the popular brand name “ DI ”.
Ceylon Leather Products Limited had approached FDDI to provide consultancy. After the diagnostic survey of the company site at Sri Lanka, by the experts of FDDI, some critical gap areas were identified & the experts were of the opinion that the output of company can be doubled if; the critical gaps are taken care.
According to Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI, “We strive for customer satisfaction and maintain focused relationships with all our clients to understand their requirements and this attention to detail has enabled us to emerge as a provider of high quality tailor made services in the footwear sector.”
“The clientele of FDDI is diverse and this has heightened our experience and hence we are able to cater to anyone, anytime,” added Mr. Lakhara.
For the effective & proper implementation the consultancy is being provided in 3 phases.
In the first phase, the study of existing machinery and product lines, the preparation the factory flow chart diagram to facilitate smooth workflow from input of leather to handing over of finished products to stores, the management structure for production & the establishment of the planning department and the procedure of production planning & control, the identification of the training needs for operators for better productivity and quality, and the time frame for re-location, shifting, training has been carried out satisfactorily.
According to Mr. Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary FDDI, “The second & third phase of the consultancy will be provided after the machines are shifted from the old site to the new site.”
Mr. Ajay Sahay, Faculty Member, FDDI & Mr. Navendu Shekhar, Faculty Member, FDDI provided the first phase of consultancy from 7th January 2008 to 21st January 2008.
