Arkema wins 2007 Nano 50 Awards

Arkema has been named a winner of the 2007 Nano 50 Awards for the development of their controlled architecture polymers technology.
Presented by Nanotech Briefs magazine, the third annual 2007 Nano 50 Award recognizes the top 50 technologies, products and innovators that have significantly impacted, or are expected to impact, the state of the art in nanotechnology.
The winners of the Nano 50 Awards are considered to be the “best of the best” – the innovative people and designs that will move nanotechnology into key mainstream markets.
Arkema earned the award for the development of a controlled radical polymerization (CRP) technology that produces polymers with highly controlled architecture using industry-standard free-radical polymerization techniques.
Arkema's technology is based on the BlocBuilder controller, an initiating species and a nitroxide controller combined into one molecule.
BlocBuilder controller provides a straightforward, robust method for producing high purity, functionalized block copolymer structures tailored to specific end uses.
Arkema currently uses this technology to produce Nanostrength block copolymers, a range of acrylic block copolymers used as toughening agents and compatibilizers for thermoset and thermoplastic polymers used in adhesives, coatings and composites.
“It's a great honor to receive this award and to have our research team acknowledged for their commitment and dedication to nanotechnology developments,” said Rick Cuddeback, worldwide director of nanotechnology for Arkema. “Our CRP technology represents the work of the whole research team. We're very grateful for the recognition."
Arkema's technology was selected as one of the best for 2007 by a panel of nanotechnology experts. The technologies, products and innovators receiving the 50 highest scores were named Nano 50 Award winners.
