Gemini Traze to revolutionize retail sector thru RFID solutions

Gemini Traze, a leading manufacturer of radio frequency identification (RFID) readers and antennas, is a fully-owned subsidiary of Chennai-based Gemini Communication Limited. The company is optimistic that the flourishing retail sector is likely to boost demand for its RFID tags.
Presently, the company is giving proofs-of-concept to four large retail chains in the country for large scale distribution of RFID solutions for warehouse management. Besides, it is likely to disburse the same in more than 100 stores in this year.
In an exclusive interview with Fibre2fashion, Mr Pradhyumna T Venkat, CEO, Gemini Traze RFID Pvt Ltd, stated, “The Indian retail industry has seen an unprecedented shift and a marvelous growth in its business operations in the past few months. RFID is all set to transform the way business is conducted in the retail space. Most importantly it will change the way a consumer shops. We see tremendous scope in this business and expect the retail sector to contribute 15 percent to our revenues in the next 12 months. Besides, the company would pursue shelf-level tagging in 18-24 months from now.”
In the period ranging from 2008-09, the market consumption or demand for RFID solutions is anticipated to touch Rs50 crore. Already, the company has registered a turnover of 15 crore last year and expects to touch Rs20 crore by the end of this financial year.
It was in February last year that the company invested Rs25 crore for its RFID manufacturing facility at Tirumazhisai near Chennai. The facility has an annual production capacity of 100 million units a year.
