“Being a world leader in providing integrated solutions for apparel industry, Lectra with over 800 customers in India is helping customers in improving processes to optimize fabric consumption, adopting new ways of fabric requirement calculation, optimizing the planning of production orders and thus monitor fabric consumption throughout the lifecycle of a product and since apparel manufacturers are interested in implementing the latest technology to be a leader in the market, to offer the best product at the least possible price, there is a good opportunity for us in India”, he observed.

We then asked him about the awareness & know how for advanced technology adoption in India, to which he said, “The apparel manufacturers are aware of the advantages of implementing new technology in their manufacturing processes, since they keep visiting manufacturing facilities in other countries and keep interacting with their peers. We are also creating awareness on technology by organizing seminars and in-house workshops for our prospective customers and under “Lectra Education Partners” program, we have offered Lectra software free of cost to the leading fashion schools in India, due to which, the student community is becoming aware of the advanced technology.

He continued by saying, “The new technologies offers quick return on investment (some as less as 6 months) and also reduces the time to market period. The leading Indian apparel manufacturers are in the various stages of implementation or evaluation of the new technology. The government is also encouraging apparel industry to automate their manufacturing processes using various schemes like Technology Upgrade Fund Scheme (TUFS)”.

He concluded by saying, “The new and advanced technology adoption by the apparel manufacturers has been delayed only due to the existing market situation and the only way to succeed in the global context is to leverage technology, integrate processes and eliminate redundancies to ensure profitability and productivity, which is more relevant for the Indian companies today”.

Then we asked Mr Prashanth to divulge to us the inherent advantages of Lectra technology, to which he explained by saying, “Capitalizing on Lectra's fifteen years of success in automated cutting solutions specific to customer need, the Vector range of cutter is the most advanced answer to fashion and apparel companies' need for increased flexibility as it benefits from the intense R&D carried out by Lectra to provide customers with a simple, flexible solution. The Vector cutter is the ideal solution for restocking collections and prototype cutting, and it also ensures maximum productivity with non-stop cutting capability while the spread is automatically loaded in the production area”.

Explaining further, he said, “The cutting system's advanced operating software optimizes the blade path in real time in order to guarantee perfect quality of cut pieces, even those with edges at a tangent. It adapts the system's behavior to the specificities of the various fabric types and improves treatment of curves and other complex forms. Garments of impeccable quality can then be produced and made available quickly. System performance reports, generated by the operating software, provide real added value to the solution, giving decision makers all the tools they need to perfect plans for improving cutting room productivity”.
