Lectra supports Fashioning Soft Goods event

Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to industries using soft materials -- textiles, leather, industrial fabrics and composite materials -- served as the first Platinum sponsor for the Georgia Soft Goods Educational Foundation's Fashioning Soft Goods event, held in conjunction with the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors, College of Family and Consumer Sciences, University of Georgia on November 16, 2010.

The event showcased various tools being used by The University of Georgia's students in the Design and Merchandising areas, as well as, the work students are completing and research they are conducting. Attendees were also informed of the support The University of Georgia has received from The Georgia Soft Goods Educational Foundation, which has included the funding of faculty to teach new courses in global sourcing and apparel manufacturing to funding the Distinguished Professorship in Soft Goods Merchandising and Manufacturing along with other initiatives.

As the first Platinum sponsors of the event, this spring Lectra will name one student at the University of Georgia as the Lectra scholar of the year. Also for one year the CAD classroom will be recognized as the "Lectra classroom." "Lectra is proud to support the education efforts of the Georgia Soft Goods Educational Foundation," says Roy Shurling, President of Lectra North America. "Educating today's students is integral to the success of the industry's future."

The Georgia Soft Goods Education Foundation, Inc. provides support to academic programs in the State of Georgia. Its initiatives include the funding of Professorships, Scholarships, Study Abroad Programs, and other academic programs related to the soft goods industry.
