RideSpring, a leading provider of alternate commuting solutions for businesses and other organizations, announced that Gap Inc. is using the RideSpring program at its San Francisco Bay Area world headquarters.

RideSpring is a turnkey, easy-to-implement program that enables Gap to actively promote alternate commuting, measure results and reward its employees for using any method other than solo driving to get to work. It also provides employees with an easy way to find coworkers to carpool with. Those using bicycles, public transit or walking are also included in the program.

“We are delighted that Gap Inc. has selected RideSpring,” said Paul McGrath, RideSpring CEO. “Government agencies, law firms and technology companies have all achieved success with RideSpring, and Gap Inc. is our first client in the retail industry. What our diverse clients do have in common is a desire to help their employees with the increasing challenges of the daily commute and to have a commute program that provides measurable, cost-effective results.”

Commuters today encounter multiple problems, McGrath said. Drivers are dealing with the increasing cost of gas. Public transportation users are facing increased fares and reduced services, as transit agencies respond to the challenge of reduced state and local funding.

As a result, many employers are searching for additional ways they can help employees with their commute. For many, carpooling is the only viable option to cut their commute costs, he said.

Using RideSpring, employees can easily find others who live in their neighborhoods and share common work schedules. By carpooling, participants reduce commute costs, save time by using carpool lanes and lessen the chore of driving to work. Carpoolers and other employees using alternate commute methods are eligible to win monthly rewards. Prizes offered through the RideSpring program include gift cards to the Apple Store, World Market, REI, Macy's, Whole Foods, Peet's Coffee and many others.

“The prize program drives high growth and participation in employer commute programs and it is far more cost-effective than conventional commute incentive programs,” McGrath said.
