US apparel imports dip in Jan-Nov 2025; Southeast Asia gains share

  • US textile and apparel imports declined *.*1 per cent to $**.*** billion in January–November 2025, with apparel and non-apparel both weakening. China remained the top supplier but continued losing share as buyers diversified towards Southeast and South Asia. Imports rose from Cambodia, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Indonesia, while China saw sharp declines. Man-made fibre products led the mix.

China retained its position as the largest supplier with a **.** per cent market share, followed by Vietnam at **.** per cent. However, China’s share continued to slide month after month, reflecting a structural shift in sourcing. American buyers are increasingly diversifying towards Southeast and South Asia to reduce tariff exposure, mitigate geopolitical risk, counter rising production and labour costs, and build more resilient supply chains.

During January–November ****, apparel imports—the dominant product category—softened by *.** per cent to $**.*** billion, compared with $**.*** billion in the corresponding period of ****.
