Cotton yarn demand may pick up in south India; prices stable

South India's cotton yarn trade stayed subdued due to weak demand and tight payment conditions, with prices largely unchanged in Mumbai and Tiruppur. Labour shortages and slow post-Diwali production limited market activity, though traders expect improvement as summer garment production strengthens. Mills face cost pressure but cheaper imported cotton may aid export competitiveness.

In Mumbai, buyers are showing interest in cotton yarn but their purchasing capacity is limited due to payment constraints. Demand remains slow as the weaving sector is facing a labour shortage. A trader from the Mumbai market told Fibre2Fashion, “Post-Diwali, payment flow has not improved yet because both trading and production activities remained slow. However, we expect activity to pick up in the second fortnight of this month, which should improve payment flow across the textile value chain.”

In Mumbai, ** carded yarn of warp and weft varieties were traded at &#****;*,***-*,*** (~$**.**-**.**) and &#****;*,***-*,*** per * kg (~$**.**-**.**) (excluding GST), respectively.
