Cotton yarn steady in south India; demand sluggish post-Diwali

Cotton yarn prices in South India remained steady as post-Diwali demand stayed weak, particularly in Mumbai where loom operations were hit by worker shortages. Tiruppur markets reopened but saw limited lifting from downstream industries. Spinning mills are struggling to sell their full output amid subdued domestic and export demand. In Gujarat, cotton prices were steady.

In Mumbai, cotton yarn prices showed no significant movement. Trading activity was limited as the loom sector had not fully resumed operations due to worker shortages. A trader from the Mumbai market told Fibre*Fashion, “Power loom and auto loom workers usually take extended leave during Diwali. Most workers have not yet returned, and fabric production may not normalise before the first week of next month. Cotton yarn demand remains very weak from the loom sector.”

In Mumbai, ** carded yarn of warp and weft varieties were traded at &#****;*,***-*,*** (~$**.**-**.**) and &#****;*,***-*,*** per * kg (~$**.**-**.**) (excluding GST), respectively. Other prices include ** combed warp at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg, ** carded weft at &#****;*,***-*,*** (~$**.**-**.**) per *.* kg, **/** carded warp at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg, **/** carded warp at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg and **/** combed warp at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg, according to trade sources.
