The Ludhiana market has observed a rise in recycled fibre and recycled polyester yarn. Recycled polyester fibre increased by ₹3-4 per kg over the past fortnight, while recycled polyester yarn also gained ₹1-3 per kg. Interestingly, polyester yarn made from virgin fibre did not experience any price rise. Polyester cotton yarn also remained stable during the same period. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, "Virgin polyester fibre did not see much gain in proportion to the rise in crude oil prices. However, recycled polyester fibre surged by up to ₹4 per kg. Producers of recycled polyester fibre are seeing strong demand due to the economic benefits of the product. Increased demand and higher PET bottle costs pushed fibre prices up. Nevertheless, the polyester value chain is not receiving encouraging demand from the fabric and garment industries."
In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹211-221 (approximately $2.51-2.63) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹198-208 (approximately $2.36-2.48) per kg; 20 recycled polyester fibre at ₹111-121 (approximately $1.32-1.44) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹160-168 (approximately $1.91-2.00) per kg (GST inclusive); and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹76-79 (approximately $0.91-0.94) per kg.
The polyester yarn market in Surat, which primarily deals in specialised yarn made from virgin polyester fibre, did not experience any significant price drop. According to market sources, there was insufficient demand for polyester yarn from the fabric industry. The yarn and fabric segments of the textile industry are expected to remain relatively inactive until after Diwali.
In Surat, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹147-148 (approximately $1.75-1.76) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹160-161 (approximately $1.91-1.92) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹114-115 (approximately $1.36-1.37) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹106-107 (approximately $1.26-1.27) per kg; and 75 bright yarn at ₹105-106 (approximately $1.25-1.26) per kg.
Viscose yarn prices have taken on a bearish tone in Mumbai and Surat due to slow activity during the off-season. Some varieties of viscose yarn saw a decrease of ₹1-2 per kg, while others remained stable. Trade sources noted that the viscose garment season is expected to pick up after the winter, during the summer wedding season. The winter wedding season typically sees higher demand for woollen garments. Currently, the yarn market has shifted into festive mode, with traders and mills focusing on payment collection.
In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹190-196 (approximately $2.26-2.33) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹195-200 (approximately $2.32-2.38) per kg in this market. Trade sources indicated that cotton arrivals are expected to rise in northern states. The quality and yield of cotton have improved this season following a sharp decline in acreage, and the crop is in better condition compared to last season, which was affected by adverse climate conditions.
