We will screen-print text on cotton fabrics, using acrylic paints, through special screens made from computer lettering and other sources of text. We will experiment with ideas and designs, and start making textile pieces incorporating words and script, using fabric collage, fusing, and fabric piecing techniques. Machine embroidery and quilting techniques can be used to finish the work. The tutor will provide screens, paints, and all the necessary printing tools and equipment for use in the class. Students should bring the items in the Requirements List below: Fabrics to print on: cotton, light to medium weight, in plain colours, or variations on one colour, or hand-dyed fabrics; printed text is not really noticeable on a very busy background. Bring different colour fabrics, in light, medium and dark tones Bondaweb fusible web, about 1 m. Cotton wadding (optional, but recommended).
