China's textile & apparel exports up 3.5% in 2018

Textile and apparel exports from China increased by 3.5 per cent year-on-year to $276.73 billion in 2018, according to the provisional data released by the General Administration of Customs. This is the second consecutive year when textile and garment exports were positive. Segment wise, textile exports reached an all-time high during the year.

In 2018, textile exports from China fetched $119.10 billion, up 8.1 per cent year-on-year. The amount is the highest ever recorded, surpassing the 2014 record of $112.13 billion, the data showed.
For the first time since 2014, China’s apparel exports showed a slight increase of 0.3 per cent year-on-year, and earned $157.63 billion.
However, total textile and apparel exports were down 3.6 per cent year-on-year in December 2018 to $23.11 billion. Both textiles and apparel exports declined by 2.6 per cent and 4.4 per cent respectively to $9.88 billion and $13.23 billion. (RKS)
