80000 Indians trained in various leather job roles: CLE

The Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) has trained 80,000 candidates in various job roles in the sector, according to the Council for Leather Exports (CLE), whose chairman Panaruna Aqeel recently said LSSC has developed 54 qualification packs for various job roles in the leather, leather products and footwear industry, based on which training is provided.
LSSC was set up in 2012 under the aegis of the National Skill Development Corporation to undertake skill development activities in the leather, leather products and footwear industry.
LSSC has a target of training one lakh industrial workers, according to a news agency report.
Women constitute about 30 per cent of workforce in the leather industry, he said.
India's total exports of leather and footwear products were worth $5.7 billion in 2018-19.
