Efforts under way to augment supplies of PPE: Indian govt
25 Mar 20 1 min read
Prototypes of personal protection equipment (PPE) garments by six Indian firms have passed tests at an accredited laboratory of South India Textiles Research Association in Coimbatore and the supplies of PPE, including body coveralls, N-95 masks and 2-ply/3-ply surgical masks needed for healthcare professionals, are being augmented, the government recently said.
Allaying fears about inadequate efforts to augment production, a health ministry press release said there is no shortage and results of two more manufacturers will be received soon.
More manufacturers have also been invited to offer their prototypes and come forward to meet government requirements, the ministry said in a press release.
Beginning January 30, the ministry reached out to various commerce chambers, textiles associations, medical textiles manufacturers and suppliers in this endeavour.
Over the last 45 days, the health and textile ministries have been attempting to locate adequate number of manufacturers that can produce and supply the requirement of body coveralls to the government.
The supply of body coveralls from indigenous manufacturers according to revised technical requirements of the government has already commenced, the release added.
