Guatemala’s Modas B.I Apparel factory recently closed operations due to low orders for apparel by US customers. The decision by the South Korean group rendered around 800 workers jobless, including operating, administrative, import and export personnel, as well as those of direct and indirect suppliers in the adjoining area, north of capital Guatemala City.

After 20 years of staying in operation, the factory decided to withdraw from the country and close the plant located at Kilometer 8, Carretera al Atlántico.

The company produced high-end flat-knit products, such as T-shirts, shirts, pants, jackets, which require a specialised labour force, and these were shipped to various US stores.

The machinery, equipment and other production supplies were purchased by another Korean investor factory in Guatemala, according to a media report from the region.
