Dhaka bars garment workers from leaving workplace in Eid

Bangladesh has barred apparel factory workers from leaving their workplace during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays. Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal recently announced the decision after a meeting over wages, festival allowances and holidays of these workers. “This vacation will not be extended,” he added. The wages for June have been paid.
The minister said the labour ministry would soon sit with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association to arrive at a decision over the workers’ salaries for the July and their Eid allowances, according to a news agency report.
