Hong Kong firm to invest $54 mn in a new unit in BEPZA economic zone

Hong Kong-based company Campvalley Chittagong Limited will invest $54 million to set up a camping equipment and garment manufacturing unit in Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority’s (BEPZA) economic zone in Chattogram. An agreement regarding this was signed between BEPZA and the company in Dhaka recently. Over 9,000 will get employed at the unit.

The company aims at producing 21.4 million pieces of tent, bag, backpack, camping chair, furniture, luggage, sleeping bag, knit and woven garments, gazebo, umbrellas, mattress and furniture frames annually.

Currently, there are two other tent manufacturing companies in Chattogram and Karnaphuli export processing zones respectively under the same owner.

BEPZA investment promotion member Ali Reza Mazid and chairman of Campvalley Chittagong Hong Woo Lee signed the agreement, according to Bangla media reports.

BEPZA had earlier signed lease agreements with five other companies to set up industries in BEPZA economic zone. These companies will invest another $60 million and employ a total of 23,582 Bangladeshis.
