Low participation in training programmes challenge for Ghana's AGI

Doris Kesse, sector chairperson for garment, textiles and leather of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) recently urged member firms to actively participate in capacity building training programmes to keep themselves abreast with modern trends in business operations. Low attendance and participation in training programmes is a major challenge, he lamented.

Kesse told a news agency in Kumasi that active participation in training programmes would help solve most of the operations-related issues confronting the association members.

Lack of skilled craftsmen had been a major hindrance in the sector, she said. The challenge was more persistent with bigger companies that engaged workers in hundreds but few of them were perfect in handling and repair of machines, which delays output.

Hence, AGI is focusing on frequent training programmes for its members on repairs and operation of machines and tools.
