New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), City's primary vehicle for promoting economic growth in each of the five boroughs, has chosen the Brooklyn-based team of nARCHITECTS, W Architecture, and Landscape Architecture to design the garment production hub of the new Made in NY campus at Bush Terminal in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

nARCHITECTS, along with Perkins Eastman, will transform two City-owned buildings into a state-of-the-art, 200,000 square-foot garment manufacturing hub and a 160,000 square-foot light industrial manufacturing facility. W Architecture and Landscape Architecture, along with Dewberry engineers, have been selected to lead infrastructure, streetscape, and public realm improvements across the nine-acre waterfront campus. The garment hub and public realm improvements are anticipated to begin this fall.

“The Made in New York Campus is a signature project for NYCEDC. It fuses economic development with design and construction, and community,” said James Patchett, president and CEO of NYCEDC. “We are excited to work with nARCHITECTS and W Architecture and Landscape Architecture to transform Bush Terminal into a state-of-the-art garment production hub and improve campus appeal.”

The Made in NY campus will synergise creative manufacturing uses and provide affordable, ‘best-in-class’ industrial facilities for garment manufacturing, film and media production, and related services and industries. Located at Bush Terminal, the Made in NY campus will maintain the waterfront for industrial uses while making it accessible for neighborhood residents. The first phase of the campus includes a new public realm and the garment manufacturing hub that will provide spaces and programmatic support to companies working in patternmaking, marking and grading, cutting and sewing, and sample making.

Winner of former Mayor Bloomberg’s adAPT NYC competition in 2012, nARCHITECTS designed Carmel Place which opened in June 2016, setting records as the tallest building in Manhattan using modular construction and setting a new prototype for micro living. The firm also led design efforts for A/D/O, a former warehouse in Greenpoint that serves as a new design and work space open to the public, combining spaces for events and exhibitions, design education, free communal workspace, a fabrication lab, a restaurant, and a design shop.
