Turkey's apparel exports decline 15.87% in Jan-August '20

Apparel exports from Turkey decreased by 15.87 per cent in the first eight months of 2020 compared to the same period in last year, according to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute and the country's ministry of trade. In January-August 2020, Turkey exported apparel worth $9.044 billion, compared to exports of $10.751 billion clocked during the corresponding period of 2019, the data showed.
Category-wise, exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS chapter 61) earned $4.841 billion during the first eight months, registering a sharp decrease of 19.7 per cent from $6.027 billion earned during the same period of the previous year.
Exports of non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS chapter 62) were valued at $4.203 billion, showing a decline of 11.0 per cent from $4.723 billion exports made in January-August 2019.
Meanwhile, carpets, mats matting and tapestries exports (HS chapter 57) decreased by 5.8 per cent to $1.509 billion, during the period under discussion.
