Turkey's apparel exports decline 23.29% in H1 2020

Apparel exports from Turkey decreased by 23.29 per cent in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period in last year, according to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute and the country's ministry of trade. In January-June 2020, Turkey exported apparel worth $6.096 billion, compared to exports of $7.947 billion clocked during the first six months of 2019, the data showed.

Category-wise, exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS chapter 61) earned $3.234 billion during the first six months, registering a sharp decrease of 27 per cent from $4.428 billion earned during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Exports of non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS chapter 62) were valued at $2.862 billion, showing a decline of 18.7 per cent from $3.518 billion exports made in the same period of 2019.
Meanwhile, import of cotton, cotton yarn and cotton textiles increased by 1.1 per cent year-on-year during the period under review to $1.311 billion.
